Northwest Indiana’s Stephan Bonnar takes time out from training in Las Vegas to talk to Chicago’s MMA about his upcoming fight with Mark Coleman in the highly anticipated UFC 100 event.
Bonnar did not look like his usual self in his last appearance in the Octagon. Newcomer Jon Jones defeated the TUF 1 runner-up by unanimous decision at UFc 94 back in January. It was Bonnar’s first fight after a serious knee injury, and it also snapped a two-fight win streak.
Stephan told Chicago’s MMA reporter L.J. Tabano he’s ready to “return and give a good performance.” His next opponent, 44 year-old Mark Coleman, lost his last fight against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua by knock out. The match is part of UFC 100 which Stephan is excited to participate in.
“That whole week Las Vegas is going to be UFC central,” says the Munster native. “It’s going to be a historical event. Pretty damn cool to be on that event.”
Stephan also discussed the fallout from the Anderson Silva/Thales Leites fight, the upcoming 10th anniversary of local promotion Ironheart Crown, Chicago pro sports, and the success of his close friend, WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres.
UFC 100 is July 11, 2009 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
