THE TOP 100 UFC FIGHTERS

June 9, 2009 by

UFC 50With UFC 100 coming up soon, our friends at Keyboard Kimura are compiling a list of the top 100 fighters in UFC history. This is a monumental undertaking. They are not just naming 100, they are actually ranking them too. So head on over there and post your picks in the comments, or do it here since he is a Chicago’s MMA reader.

You’ll start finding out who the top 100 of all-time are on July 1st. Then they’ll deliver 10 a day until they unveil #1 on July 10, the day before UFC 100.

I’m going to go ahead and throw some names out there. And it’s not as easy as you think. Some fighters — like Cro Cop — have been very successful in Pride but not in the UFC. Here we go, in no particular order…

  • Chuck Liddell
  • Ken Shamrock
  • Dan Severn
  • Evan Tanner
  • Randy Couture
  • Royce Gracie
  • GSP
  • Matt Hughes
  • Rich Franklin
  • Quinton Jackson
  • Maurice Smith
  • Vitor Belfort
  • Mark Kerr
  • Mark Coleman
  • Oleg Taktarov
  • BJ Penn
  • Tito Ortiz
  • Jeremy Horn
  • Forrest Griffin
  • Patrick Smith
  • Ricco Rodriguez
  • Jens Pulver
  • Keith Jardine
  • Anderson Silva
  • Diego Sanchez

Ok. That’s just 25. Hit it up with some more…

Marco Ruas- One of the first ones we saw in Octagon mixing subs with Muay Thai. Head of Ruas Vale Tudo

Frank Shamrock- Despite the rift between Frank and current UFC regime, Frank made his name with UFC. Ushered new generation of fighter by adding stand-up to his submission skills. Many fighters began following his lead of corss-training. Formed the “Alliance” with champion kickboxer Mo’ Smith.

Genki Sudo- Epitome of entertainer/exciting fighter. Way before Mayhem Miller was posturing during fights and dancing in his entrances, Sudo was dazzling audiences with such antics and more. His time in UFC was brief but memorable.

Nate diaz is underated. He needs to be in the top 50. If he shows off his boxing a little bit more he would be even better.
