KILLER FINISHES: PALHARES HEEL HOOK
March 28, 2010 by Matt
Tomasz Drwal slipped and fell to the canvas on his first kick attempt in his fight against Rousimar Palhares at UFC 111. It would cost him a chance at winning, and perhaps keep him out of the cage for a while after Palhares secured a heel hook that he did not release after Drwal repeatedly tapped.
Initial x-rays found nothing broken in Drwal’s leg, but he will still have an MRI to reveal the full extent of the injury. Palhares was suspended for 90 days by the New Jersey state athletic commission for failing to release the hold. He claimed he was just doing as most fighters are instructed to do: wait until the ref stops the bout before letting of the hold.

PATRICK CURRAN FILLS FINAL SLOT IN BELLATOR’S 155 TOURNAMENT
March 21, 2010 by searstapper
A local fighter fills the last spot in Bellator’s 155 pound tournament. Patrick Curran, fresh off a victory over Robbie Oliver last month in England, signs on with the biggest fight promotion of his career. The XFO veteran and cousin to Jeff Curran joins a division which includes Roger Huerta, Toby Imada and current champion Eddie Alvarez. “Patty Mike” makes his Bellator debut on April 15 at The Chicago Theatre. His cousin fights in the main event that night against Joe Doherty. Read more on Patrick’s Bellator debut inside.
CLAY GUIDA TALKS SHANNON GUGERTY
Clay “The Carpenter” Guida talks with Heavy.com about his upcoming fight with Shannon Gugerty at UFC on Versus 1. I think Guida is a perfect example of how quickly a fighter’s life can change, especially when you fight in the UFC. It doesn’t seem that long ago that Guida was battling Diego Sanchez in one of the best fights of the year. Now he’s going to be on the undercard against Gugerty, who is making his 5th appearance in the Octagon. The good news is that I think Guida takes this fight handily, gets back into the win column and we will see him again on the main card of a UFC event.
VIDEO: MTC FEATURED ON WGN-TV
March 16, 2010 by searstapper
The team at Midwest Training Center welcomed WGN feature reporter Marcus Leshock to their gym. Leshock interviewed head coach Alex Trujillo and some of MTC’s fighters in a nice little feature package. It’s always good to see a local gym get some exposure on a major local media outlet like WGN-TV. It also looks like Marcus had a little fun while shooting this story.

Among all the Judoka who’ve entered mixed martial arts, Karo “The Heat” Parisyan is arguably the best at showcasing his throwing skills, as well as extrapolating the art’s techniques into his “MMA toolbox.” The Olympian Centre in Lombard is offering a rare opportunity to learn from the UFC standout.
DAN HARDY’S SWEET GSP IMPRESSION
March 11, 2010 by Matt
Dan Hardy is a funny cat. An acquired taste perhaps? Maybe. He seems to be growing on me. Here he does a pretty spot-on impression of GSP.
