CHICAGO’S MIKE RUSSOW WINS AT UFC 114

Chicago police officer Mike Russow looked as if he was going to lose by decision to Todd Duffee at UFC 114. Duffee had won rounds 1 & 2 with ease, battering Russow with shots while avoiding Russow’s takedown attempts and not receiving any damage. But then out of nowhere at 2:35 of round 3, Russow caught Duffee with a right hand that sent him to the canvas. He would never get up. Russow had pulled off an amazing comeback KO.
“It was an awful fight, I’m not very happy with it”, Russow told Joe Rogan.
Russow has fought in many of the long-running local promotions in the Chicagoland area including Brawl At Bourbon Street, Xtreme Fighting Organization and Combat-Do Fighting Challenge. He also participated in the debut show for Adrenaline MMA at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates.
Competing on a major stage is not new to Russow. He is a veteran of the late Pride Fighting Championships, and he defeated Russian Roman Zentsov in the Yarennoka – New Years Eve 2007 show in Japan. But with his KO victory over Duffee and his UFC 102 win Russow is now 13-1 in his career and undefeated in the UFC.
WEC INVADES CANADA

Patrick Cote, Jason MacDonald, Sam Stout and other Canadian UFC fighters talk about the WEC’s first event in Canada. WEC: Varner vs Shalorus will be Live from Edmonton on June 20th at 9pm ET and will air live on Versus or The Score.
Local fighter and former WEC champion Eddie Wineland (16-6-1) will fight on the card, taking on Will Campuzano (7-1). After his loss to Rani Yahya here in Chicago at WEC 40, Wineland has rattled off 2 straight unanimous decision victories. He bested Manny Tapia at WEC 43, then beat former TUF contestant George Roop in January at WEC 48.

DAN HORNBUCKLE’S KIMURA AT BELLATOR 19

Dan Hornbuckle continues to thrill crowds with his exciting style of finishing fights. He had the legendary head kick KO of Akihiro Gono at Sengoku 9. He recently had another Killer Finish at Bellator 19, locking in a Kimura against Steve Carl.
That was Hornbuckle’s second submission victory of the tournament and now he moves on to the finals of the Bellator Welterweight tournament. Hornbuckle hails from Mahomet and got his start in local shows like TFC, Duneland Classic and Ironheart Crown.

Andrei Arlovski’s return to the MMA cage was not so triumphant. He fought in Strikeforce St. Louis: Heavy Artillery against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva and lost by unanimous decision. “The Pitbull” has been out of MMA for almost a year and during that time he gave thought to a boxing career. Dare I ask, but did he do anything in the Silva fight to show he could do any better in the boxing ring? What happend to the work he did with famed trainer Freddy Roach?
