What’s Next for Shane Carwin?

Shane Carwin, UFC 131

Shane Carwin is one of the most respected and fan-friendly fighters in all of MMA. After his UFC 131 loss to Junior dos Santos, Carwin went on the popular Underground Forum to drop a note to all his fans.

I used to watch MMA as a fan and dream of being one of those guys. I have truly been blessed with a rare opportunity. I have fought for the title twice and now I have been in one of those “wars” that I loved watching so much. You look at the legends of MMA and almost all of them have been through wars. Junior was the better fighter and he deserves all the accolades and the shot at the title.

I am home now in pretty bad shape but I am looking forward to getting back into the gym and improve on my technique. Thank you so much for all of your support and friendship.

– Carwin

As sports fans, there will always be players or fighters that you just ache for to win a title. Cubs fans had Ernie Banks. For Dolphins fans it was Dan Marino. Seems like the whole world wanted Charles Barkley to get a ring. And now, after 2 title shots, Carwin is falling into that category. He still has time to climb back up and get another shot, but for now he remains one of those good guys that you cheer for, that you hope for, that hasn’t won the big prize.

What’s next for Carwin? A rematch with either Brock Lesnar or Frank Mir? A fight with an up and comer like Brendan Schaub or Matt Mitrione? A battle with Roy Nelson? Any of those would be entertaining to me, and I think most fans. Maybe that goes without saying, since it’s always entertaining when Carwin is in the cage. Here’s hoping we get to see him again very soon.
