Comprido: Eddie Bravo is an Idiot

September 30, 2011 by

Brock Lesnar and Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros

Our friends at MMA Nuts interviewed FLO MMA/Team Brasa’s Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros, who had some harsh words for 10th Planet’s Eddie Bravo.

Comprido has always taken a strong anti-drug stance, and he continues to do that here, criticizing Eddie Bravo for promoting the use of marijuana as a performance enhancer for Jiu Jitsu.

UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III Preview

September 30, 2011 by

Frankie Edgar with Joe Rogan

This card is amazing. Two title fights: Edgar vs. Maynard and Aldo vs. Florian and then the Brian Stann vs. Chael Sonnen fight.

If Edgar vs. Maynard III is anything like the last fight, it’s going to be insane. This trailer will definitely get you psyched up.

Chicago’s MMA Fighters Update

September 29, 2011 by

Dan Stittgen

Quick updates on Chicago area fighters…

- Miguel Torres is fighting Nick Pace at UFC 139. You may remember Pace from his insane flying knee KO of Collin Tebo back at Bellator 11. Torres will try to get back in the title picture after his loss to Demetrious Johnson. Pace is coming off a UFC 133 loss to Ivan Menjivar.

- Chicago’s Mike Russow is out of UFC 136 as his opponent Dave “Pee Wee” Herman tested positive for marijuana and steroids. No replacement was named so the fight was scratched.

It’s a tough break for Russow, who last fought at UFC Fight Night in March, when he beat Jon Madsen. Russow is 14-1 and has not lost since 2007, when he was submitted by Sergei Kharitonov at PRIDE 33.

- Dan “The Anvil” Stittgen will be fighting on October 8th at “King of the Cage: Interference” in Wisconsin. The MTC fighter recently won at Rockford Cage Fights and at XFO 39 in May. He is also a veteran of the TFC.

- The Supremacy MMA video game has hit stores, and it features local fighters Felice Herrig, Michele Gutierrez and Jens Pulver. Check out the game at their website.

Last time we saw Eric Kriegermeier in action he beat Mike Santiago in Chicago Cagefighting Championship III last March.  The Team Curran 155-pounder took a little break from competition but is ready to rejoin his teammates in Crystal Lake and train again.  Kriegermeier hasn’t been completely M.I.A. from the sport, he coaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Krav Maga Illinois in Highland Park.

McCorkle to Headline Chicago Cagefighting Championship IV

September 26, 2011 by

Chicago Cagefighting sent out the following press release, with news that their main event has changed for their upcoming October 1th event. Ray and War Machine are out, McCorkle is in:

The injury bug has bitten again. The main event for CCC IV: “War Machine vs. Gideon Ray” has been replaced with 12-2 UFC Heavyweight Vet Sean “Big Sexy”McCorkle vs. Justin “The Griz” Grizzard.

Over the weekend Gideon informed Chicago Cagefighting that he had suffered an injury to his hand and would not be able to compete. To compound problems, War Machine suffered a cut to his chin during training and is not able to train for at least a week. When a suitable replacement for Gideon could not be found, we made a tough decision. With only three weeks to the event we were forced to cancel the entire bout.

In our continuing effort to bring the best possible show to our fans, CCC was able to sign Sean “Big Sexy” McCorkle. Sean has a pedigree as big as the cage and his only 2 losses came in the UFC. Sean is looking to get back to the top and felt that a win in the “Windy City” would help get him there. “Big Sexy” will be taking on Justin “The Griz” Grizzard. This will be CCC’s first Super Heavyweight fight and we know the fans will certainly get their monies worth.

We are super excited, and feel fortunate to have “Big Sexy” step up and take this fight so late in the game.

Bellator 51: Alexis Vila KOs Joe Warren

Bellator continues to provide fight fans with amazing finishes on a weekly basis. Bellator 51 featured Alexis “The Exorcist” Vila against reigning featherweight champion Joe Warren.

Vila needed little time to hand Warren his first defeat.

Vila is 40 years old, and did not start training MMA until he was 36. “There’s nobody that can stop me from becoming the next Bellator Bantamweight World Champion,” Vila said. “I feel like the belt is already mine. I just have to beat up a few guys before I get to take it home.”

Warren remains the featherweight champ, but he is knocked out of the bantamweight tourney.
