UFC on FOX 8 Best Bets

Demetrious Johnson will try to defend his flyweight title Saturday as the UFC on FOX heads to his hometown of Seattle. Here are our best bets for the event.

Rory MacDonald bragged about how he was having fun beating on BJ Penn, but the cocky fighter will find a different breed of opponent in Jake Ellenberger.

Ellenberger doesn’t believe the hype surrounding MacDonald. “For guys to say MacDonald’s the next GSP or GSP 2.0? Give me a break. It totally irritates me.” I’m in full agreement. Which is why I think Ellenberger at +190 is an excellent value.

Jorge Masvidal has little respect for opponent Mike Chiesa, calling him a “watered-down Royce Gracie” and saying that the UFC is “giving me money at this point.” I’m not sure why Masvidal has such an inflated ego. He’s bounced around from promotion to promotion and most observers of the sport would say he hasn’t fulfilled his potential.

Anyway, my guess is Chiesa is flattered by being called a ‘watered-down Royce Gracie’. Second, Masvidal hasn’t finished a fight in almost four years. That’s bad news when you’re fighting a guy that is going to get you to the ground at some point and has the skills to finish you there. I absolutely love Chiesa at +220.

Germaine De Randamie may not be a familiar name for people that like MMA betting, I think she is a great play. Julie Kedzie is a pioneer in WMMA, but she also has a lot of mileage on her. De Randamie is bigger, stronger and younger than Kedzie, and she had an amazing Muay Thai career. De Randamie at -125 is a lock.

Those are our top three picks. Here are others we like, but not as much due to the matchup and/or the line.

  • Robbie Lawler -300 over Bobby Voelker
  • Liz Carmouche -600 over Jessica Andrade
  • Melvin Guillard -120 over Mac Danzig

I’m also calling Lawler for KOTN, Chiesa for SOTN and Ellenberger vs. MacDonald for FOTN. Enjoy the fights!
