ADCC Chicago takes place this Saturday at Frontier Park Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge. Besides kids and adults of all ages competing in both gi and no-gi matches, two of the Chicago area’s most well-known teachers will be competing in super fights. Seven-time BJJ world champion Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros will go up against Leo Pecanha and MMA pioneer Jeff Curran will battle Omar Choudhury.
Both men are excited to compete at ADCC Chicago.
“It’s very cool to see how Chicago is turning in to a BJJ town, with all the big organizations having shows here. I hope for a great tournament. I’m personally well-trained and I believe Pecanha is in good shape too. I’m confident we will make a good fight and the public will enjoy,” Comprido said.
Curran had hoped to return to MMA, but injuries and and the workload of running a gym and coaching both pro and amateur fighters led him to stay retired. But he relishes this opportunity to compete in the sport that he loves.
“I am really excited about the event and I hope to show the BJJ community I am still alive and exist outside the realm of MMA,” Curran said.
Curran will face Choudhury, the Roufusport/Carlson Gracie instructor that fought many times locally in the XFO. The Curran vs. Choudhury match will begin at 12:15pm on mat 3.
Comprido faces Pecanha, the Nova Uniao Black Belt and three-time BJJ world champion. That match will begin at 1:15pm, also on mat 3.
Registration for ADCC Chicago remains open until June 20. Spectator tickets can be purchased online for $10 or at the door for $15.
