Cyrus Washington has fought Muay Thai internationally (Thailand, China, Europe) and has also tried MMA. The Michigan native came to BIMA Chicago in North Suburban Highland Park to coach a seminar. Chicago’s MMA talked to him after the seminar.

Lemoore, CA. (March 5, 2011) — Bellator Fighting Championships made its highly anticipated season 4 debut on MTV2, and the action certainly didn’t disappoint. The night saw Bellator’s Welterweight Tournament field get cut in half, with Brent Weedman, Rick Hawn, Jay Hieron, and Lyman Good moving onto the Bellator Welterweight Semifinals later this season.

He is the Midwest Director for Progressive Fighting Systems, the style of JKD created by Paul Vunak, one-time hand to hand instructor for the Navy SEALS. PULVER WINS DESPITE BROKEN FOOT

Veteran Jens Pulver wins a split decision over downstate Illinois fighter Wade Choate at Chicago Cagefighting Championship III in Villa Park. The fight was standup match which saw Pulver pressing forward most of the night and Choate circling from the outside and selectively picking his times to trade. Pulver revealed in the post-fight interview he had broken his foot in the first round of the contest. This makes two wins in a row for Pulver since hooking up with Team Curran.
In the night’s other main event Chase Beebe from Gilbert Grappling/Midwest Training Center put his wrestling skills on display and ground and pounded his way to a unanimous decision win over veteran Jiu Jitsu player Steve Kinnisen. Beebe spent most of the night working from top position and made a couple kimura attempts from inside Kinnisen’s half guard.
Felice Herrig bounced back from a loss in January to finish Andrea Miller by TKO in the first round. After a brief exchange on the feet Herrig took the fight to the mat and worked herself to the mount and hit Miller with a flurry of punches till the referee stopped it.
The highlight of the night goes to Team Top Notch’s Giovanni Moljo who caught Carson Beebe, the younger brother of Chase, in an inverted triangle choke early in the first round.
Chicago Cagefighting Championship promoter Joe Smith is planning to produce another professional show later this year in October, and is also looking to throw an event for June.

Faye coached noted MMA trainers Greg Nelson and Erik Paulson early in their careers.
DEFENDING AGAINST KNIFE ATTACKS WITH MMA TECHNIQUES

Joe Lozito is the man who helped New York Police catch a suspect accused of murdering four people during a stabbing spree. The longtime UFC and MMA fan used a double leg takedown against a knife wielding Maksim Gelman and kept him pinned on the ground till the authorities could arrive. Lozito doesn’t train MMA but says he learned to do the move through “osmosis.”
There are techniques from Mixed Martial Arts that can be applied in self-defense situations against a bladed attack. Chicago MMA’s L.J. Tabano talked with Paul Sharp from Sharp’s Martial Arts in Elgin about some of those applications. Sharp, a member of the Elgin SWAT Team, has fought in local promotions and also uses MMA techniques in a system he helped develop for police and civilians to deal with situations against bladed weapons.

Jeff Curran is looking to bounce back from a rocky 2010 and make 2011 a memorable year. He’s currently recovering from forearm surgery, but that won’t stop him from calling out a fighter(UK bantamweight Greg Knapp) for a potential fight when he’s fully healed. The Big Frog talked to Chicago’s MMA reporter L.J. Tabano about the road back to MMA prominence.
