KILLER FINISHES: PALHARES HEEL HOOK

March 28, 2010 by Matt

100rpalharesTomasz Drwal slipped and fell to the canvas on his first kick attempt in his fight against Rousimar Palhares at UFC 111. It would cost him a chance at winning, and perhaps keep him out of the cage for a while after Palhares secured a heel hook that he did not release after Drwal repeatedly tapped.

Initial x-rays found nothing broken in Drwal’s leg, but he will still have an MRI to reveal the full extent of the injury. Palhares was suspended for 90 days by the New Jersey state athletic commission for failing to release the hold. He claimed he was just doing as most fighters are instructed to do: wait until the ref stops the bout before letting of the hold.
