Junior Dos Santos On First UFC Win in Chicago
April 2, 2012 by Matt
Who knew that when UFC 90 hit the Allstate Arena back in October, 2008 that we’d be watching a future heavyweight champion in his first UFC fight. Such was the case as Junior Dos Santos entered the match as a huge underdog to BJJ specialist Fabricio Werdum.
‘Cigano’ not only got the dramatic, upset victory, he also took home ‘Knockout of the Night’ honors. He hasn’t lost a fight in the UFC, going 8-0 to date and taking the heavyweight title from Cain Velasquez last November on Fox.

March 12, 2012 by Matt
Chase Beebe had little trouble with David Love when they fought Saturday night at Colosseum Combat
XX in Kokomo.
Beebe did what he does best — got the fight to the ground, pounded on his opponent and eventually got the submission, the 17th of his career.
Here is the video of the fight, taken by MTC’s Ed Carpenter.
Pat Curran KOs Joe Warren [Video]
March 10, 2012 by Matt
Pat Curran finished Joe Warren at Bellator 60 in Hammond to become the new featherweight champion.
Curran put one of the more vicious beatings we’ve seen in MMA on Warren, and the referee should have stepped in sooner to stop the fight. Here’s how it went down.
Anthony Gasso vs. James Yarbrough – MMA at the Max 2
March 7, 2012 by Matt
Patriot Boxing’s Anthony Gasso made his debut at APFC’s MMA at the Max 2, and wasted no time asserting himself. He comes out guns blazing right from the opening bell.
Thankfully Yarbrough was able to leave the cage on his own strength. As for Gasso, it was a kick to see a fighter make his debut and win like that. One of the joys of going to local shows and seeing amateur bouts is for moments like the one Gasso had on Saturday night.
Fallon Fox vs. Scottie Fortner: APFC Women’s Lightweight Championship
March 5, 2012 by Matt
Midwest Training Center’s Fallon Fox vs. reigning champion Scottie Fortner for the APFC Women’s Lightweight title.
Outstanding performance by Fox. The power slam, patiently getting that leg out of Fortner’s half-guard to get the mount and then transitioning to the arm bar — just an excellent fight for the new APFC women’s lightweight champ.
Chicago Politician Sued by MMA Fighters
March 2, 2012 by Matt
About three years ago, we were excited to tell you about a new women’s MMA reality show that was to air nationally on NBC.
According to their press release, it was going to feature some of the big names in women’s MMA: Tara LaRosa, Rosi Sexton and Cris Cyborg as coaches, with Felice Herrig, Roxy Richardson, Kerry Vera, Michelle Vera, Marloes Coenen and Jessica Aguilar among the 16 fighters.
That show never made it to air, but it did make some news recently when Fox Chicago reported that a local politician was being sued by seven of the fighters.
Sean Morrison was an investor for the show, and he’s also a candidate for the Cook County Board of Review. He’s being sued by fighters that claim they were never paid for being on the show.
Here’s the clip from Fox Chicago:

Poirier, Credeur Star in ‘Fightville’
March 2, 2012 by Matt
Deep in the heart of Louisiana, far from MMA’s highest stage, a group of young athletes train and compete in the proving grounds of MMA. Filmed over two years, FIGHTVILLE, a groundbreaking documentary, follows the lives of several fighters including breakout UFC star Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier and his mentor UFC veteran “Crazy” Tim Credeur as they compete in the regional circuit.
Directed by Petra Epperlein and Michael Tucker, FIGHTVILLE examines the art and sport of mixed martial arts. While the film focuses on the Louisiana fight scene, FIGHTVILLE is a microcosm of life, a physical manifestation of the American Dream and the relentless dedication required of all who hope to attain it.
“This is not just another film about MMA,” says Tucker. “This is a film about what it takes to be the best at anything and we hope that FIGHTVILLE will introduce a new audience to the beauty and passion of the sport.”
FIGHTVILLE will premiere in theatres and on demand on April 20th, just three weeks before Poirier headlines UFC on Fuel when he takes on “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung on May 15.
Here is the trailer for the film.

Bellator 60: Pat Curran vs. Joe Warren Promo
February 29, 2012 by Matt
Come March 9, there’s a good chance we’ll be referring to Team Curran’s Pat Curran as Bellator featherweight champion. He’ll take on Joe Warren, the self-proclaimed “Baddest Man on the Planet” at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond at Bellator 60.
Since his loss to Eddie Alvarez in their Bellator lightweight title fight, Curran dropped to 145 and put on three brilliant performances. He latched a Peruvian Neck-tie on Luis Palomino, beat up Ronnie Mann in a unanimous decision win, and knocked out Marlon Sandro with a vicious kick.
His four fights in 2011 — including the loss — showed MMA fighters and fans that Curran, just 24, can win fights wherever they go and go into deep waters with world champions.
Here’s the Bellator promo for his fight with Warren.
