THE PITBULL IN THE PITS
May 16, 2010 by searstapper
Andrei Arlovski’s return to the MMA cage was not so triumphant. He fought in Strikeforce St. Louis: Heavy Artillery against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva and lost by unanimous decision. “The Pitbull” has been out of MMA for almost a year and during that time he gave thought to a boxing career. Dare I ask, but did he do anything in the Silva fight to show he could do any better in the boxing ring? What happend to the work he did with famed trainer Freddy Roach? Watch the fights for yourself and weigh in .
PONDERING THE PITBULL
February 20, 2010 by searstapper
After some quiet time, local heavyweight Andrei Arlovski sneaks back into the fight world’s consciousness. He took time off from the cage/ring to act in the direct to DVD film “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” and tape an appearance on MTV’s “Bully Beatdown.” Now Andrei is looking for some “regeneration” in the fight game.

ARLOVSKI VS. ROGERS AT STRIKEFORCE
May 19, 2009 by Matt
This is shaping up to be quite a card.
SHOWTIME announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr., announced today that top-10 ranked heavyweight and former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski will face unbeaten heavyweight sensation Brett “The Grim” Rogers on Saturday, June 6 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis and LIVE on SHOWTIME.
The announcement was made at a kick-off press conference for STRIKEFORCE: Lawler vs. Shields at the Atrium at Scottrade Center. The heavyweight showdown will precede the main event fight between two of the most highly regarded fighters in the world, “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler and Jake Shields.
The card now features Grim vs. Pit Bull, plus:
- Lawler vs. Shields
- Baroni vs. Riggs
- Whitehead vs. Randleman
- Nick Diaz vs. Scott Smith
Looks like June 6th could prove to be an even better card than the last event.
KILLER FINISHES: ARLOVSKI VS. FREEMAN
May 13, 2009 by Matt
This “Killer Finish” is from UFC 40 and it has an interesting back story. This was the Pitbull’s 4th fight in the UFC, and his opponent was Ian Freeman. It also might have been his last fight in the UFC. He was knocked out in his 2 previous fights by Pedro Rizzo and Ricco Rodriguez. If he lost to Freeman he would have been 1-3 in the UFC. And his only win was a sub against Aaron Brink, his only fight in the Octagon.
So Arlovski needed an impressive win badly. Freeman had won his last 2 fights in the UFC, including knocking out Frank Mir in round one of their fight at UFC 38.
So now that you have the set up, check out this “Killer Finish”:
PIT BULL’S NEXT FIGHT MAY NOT BE TELEVISED
April 25, 2009 by Matt
The Pit Bull may be going from top dog to stray mutt.
Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions has signed Andrei Arlovski to fight in a 6-round boxing match for its June 27 show. The fight is scheduled for the undercard of the event featuring Chris John vs. Rocky Juarez. Here’s the kicker: since it is an undercard fight, it may not even make it on TV.
Arlovski’s trainer Freddie Roach told MMA Fanhouse that the Pit Bull ”…likes to box so much more than MMA… He likes the stand-up game. If boxing takes off for him I think he’ll stay, but obviously if he gets a world title fight in MMA he probably would not turn that down.”
I suppose Fedor will do that to a guy. I wonder if Arlovski thinks he has taken MMA as far as he can, or if he thinks boxing is an easier payday. I also wonder how much a fighter gets paid for a six-round match on an undercard. The Pit Bull won his last 5 before Fedor, and 4 of them were KO’s.
One thing I do know: Andrei Arlovski nor any other MMA fighter can ever make boxing exciting to me again.
