Despite the popularity of the UFC and the thriving MMA scene in the region(Chicago and Northwest Indiana) the coverage of the sport has been virtually non-existent in mainstream Chicago media outlets. One local TV sports anchor is looking to change that fact. WFLD-TV’s Lou Canellis recently interviewed UFC welterweight Chris Lytle live on set.
“Lights Out” Lytle was in Chicago giving a seminar at the Olympian Centre in Lombard. Canellis brought Lytle into the studio to talk about the sport, his upcoming fight at UFC 119 against Matt Serra, as well as his pick in the Silva/Sonnen fight which was taking place that night.
Canellis tells Chicago’s MMA he plans to feature more fighters during his sportscasts in the future. He recognizes the lack of MMA coverage in local television and hopes to be the one to the lead the way here in Chicago.
