Eddie Wineland

Local fighter Eddie Wineland (Duneland Vale Tudo and New Breed Jiu Jitsu) gets a big name and a big fight at UFC 128 when he faces Urijah Faber. The former TFC and WEC Bantamweight Champion has won 4 straight and 6 of his last 7. If he beats Faber, Wineland could be in line for a title shot.

Faber recently spoke with Bloody Elbow about Wineland.

“I like Eddie Wineland a lot,” Faber stated. “We’ve had time to hang out before over the years and he’s a cool dude. He’s a very entertaining fighter with good stand-up prowess but I’m not threatened by that. I fought Jose Aldo for 25 minutes and I’ve fought devastating strikers and I’ve yet to be knocked out. I’m not planning on getting donkey slammed and I’m not real vulnerable for body shots. That is how he’s finished his last couple of guys. I think his best chance of winning is on the feet and my best chance of winning is anywhere.”

Wineland is coming off two straight “Knockout of the Night” awards. A third against Faber will be tough to come by. But if Wineland can beat Faber he might get to fight for the title he held back in 2006.

Five years between title shots is a rare occurrence in MMA. It shows that Wineland is a dedicated fighter that has continued to progress as the quality of competition has increased.
