Fight Card 44: Cross the Line Results

Fight Card 44: Darrel Edmonson vs. Otis Brumfield

MMA fans packed Joe’s Sports Bar on Thursday night, February 16th for FCE #44/CROSS THE LINE, with all proceeds from the event donated to the Jeff Dunbar Support Trust Fund.

In the most exciting fight of the evening, lightweights Darrel Edmonson of Robbins, Illinois and Team No Comment went to war with Chicago’s Otis Brumfield of the Combat Zone Team.

From the opening bell of round one, both combatants went bombs away connecting on numerous heavy punches with a few well-placed kicks. In the second half, Edmondson and Brumfield each were able to spin excellent reversals when the fight hit the floor of the Hexagon.

Round two featured more of the same with excellent two-way action on the ground and stand-up.

With the huge crowd at Joe’s Sports Bar cheering on the two warriors during the final round, Edmonson and Brumfield battled to the final seconds.

At the end of the three rounds, Edmonson was awarded the victory by scores of 29-28 on all three scorecards.

In the main event of the evening, Azamat Shogenov and Team 110’s Bryan Ortiz entered the Hexagon to huge cheers from the crowd. Unfortunately, just as the action was heating up, the aggressive Shogenov accidently kicked Oritz in the face while he was down.

With Ortiz perhaps suffering a broken nose, the fight was stopped at the 0:20 mark of the opening stanza and ruled a No-Contest in their scheduled three round bantamweight bout.

Opening the FCE #44/CROSS THE LINE card was a bantamweight matchup between Chicago’s Jeremy Rennels and Wisconsin’s Gerard Mills.

Rennels wasted no time, forcing the surprised Mills to submit at the 0:13 mark opening round due to a quickly forced rear naked chokehold.

In a middleweight clash, Downers Grove’s Hassan Umer placed Ezyekeio Sidney into an arm choke at the 0:52 mark of the first stanza securing the submission as his huge crowd of supporters cheered on.

A highly anticipated Muy Thai women’s bout between Team 110’s Vanessa De La Garza and Team No Comment’s Jessica Heuer had the crowd roaring over the three rounds as both ladies were aggressive from the opening bell of the three round 135 pound bout.

After the all-action fight De La Garza was awarded the victory by split decision scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 28-29.

In the lightweight category, Team 110’s Rafael Reyes and Trevor Adeszko impressed the crowd at Joe’s Sports Bar with a terrific clash between the aggressive combatants.

Adeszko was able to escape from Reyes clutches on numerous occasions and at the 2:09 mark of the third round the bout was stopped as Adeszko was striking the tiring Reyes at will, opening a bad cut over his right eye.

Welterweights were well represented in the Hexagon as Top Notch’s Ruben Marquez clashed with Eric Jachimiec.

After an action packed two minutes, Jachimiec was able to force an arm bar tap out submission at the 2:33 mark of the first round.

In the bantamweight division Team No Comment’s Ceasar Ordorica was defeated by Danny Flores with a barrage of punches, the referee stopping the fight at 2:59 mark of the first round.

Rounding out the card, Team Top Notch’s Nick Nagle forced a submission of Trevor Rose at the 1:45 mark of the second round in their lightweight bout.
