The XFC will be holding fighter tryouts in the Chicago area next March, according to sources close to the promotion.
Sources say that FLO MMA in Palatine is a likely destination for the event, which will feature open tryouts for the Tampa-based organization.
“The plans are to host them in the Chicago area, but nothing has been set in stone,” said XFC rep TJ Alcock.
The XFC has several local fighters on their roster. Gabe Salinas-Jones and Felice Herrig have fought multiple times for the XFC, and Daniel Vizcaya recently secured a contract with the promotion after attending their open tryouts in Springfield, Mass.
Bob Stewart, Vizcaya’s coach at Full Mount MMA, told Chicago’s MMA in June that it was a long process.
“After a 10-hour tryout versus 100 of the top up-and-coming fighters from the US, Canada and Europe, we were offered a deal to fight live on a main card,” Stewart said.
Vizcaya’s first XFC bout has not been announced, but on Facebook he told fans that he was told he will be fighting in the first quarter of 2013.
