Graves Chokes Out Skibinski at Bellator 75

Bellator 75: Jason Graves vs. Rafal Skibinski

by Matt Lo Cascio

Jason Graves said there would be no mercy for Rafal Skibinski during their rematch at Bellator 75. He spoke truth.

Graves (2-3) took Skibinski’s back near the halfway mark of the first round and clamped down a rear naked choke that made Skibinski (2-2) tap out.

It was a slugfest from the opening bell as both fighters came out throwing bombs behind a raucous crowd at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino. The fight got to the ground early with Graves on top, similar to their XFO 43 bout. The crowd shouted a loud chant of “Rafal” as Graves backed him into the cage. Graves was trying to land ground and pound, while Skibinski fought to maintain guard.

Skibinski was able to snap on a triangle that looked to be tight. The crowd roared in anticipation of a finish, but Graves was able to escape. He proceeded to try and land from top position then took Skibinski’s back and sank in the choke that finished the fight at 2:50 of round one.

The fighters embraced shortly before the official decision, as good sportsmanship overcame the bad blood between them. Here’s hoping they do it for a third time when Bellator returns to The Venue on December 14 for Bellator 84.

The fight was moved to the last fight of the night and Skibinski forfeited part of his purse to Graves for failure to make weight.
