An athlete since childhood and former college football player, Collin Williams was an early enthusiast of mixed martial arts (MMA). Despite the fact that the sport had gained worldwide prominence — and is now a candidate for Olympic status — Collin struggled to find a local comprehensive MMA program, where he could practice boxing, jiu-jitsu and kickboxing.

“I was surprised that a city as big and great as Chicago didn’t offer a training venue exclusively dedicated to fight sports,” said Collin.

The 34-year-old attorney and self-avowed MMA and boxing nut decided to put Chicago on the fight sport map. Envisioning a boutique MMA and alternative fitness facility that would eventually expand throughout the Midwest, he endeavored to provide its members the best equipment, the top instructors and the most clear-cut, undeniable results for their investment. With his personal motto “The only risk you regret is the one you don’t take” in mind, Collin decided to go big.

He reached out to one of the top names in the industry, Everlast, who agreed to equip Emerald Smoke. He then sought out Mike Bodziach as general manager, an MMA fighter who launched his career by stepping into the cage against welterweight champion Dan Hornbuckle.

With Mike’s expertise and his vision, Collin opened Emerald Smoke. The Midwest’s premier fight sport club and gym, officially equipped with Everlast gear, Emerald Smoke is now home to Chicago’s fight sport enthusiasts, practitioners in training, and regional champions.
