Takeya Mizugaki will challenge Northwest Indiana’s Miguel Torres for the WEC’s Bantamweight Title this Sunday at the UIC Pavillion. Mizugaki was a champion in Cage Force, the only promotion in Japan where MMA is contested in a cage. Transitioning from the ring to the cage has been difficult for many of the individuals who’ve previously fought in the Far East including former Pride Fighting stars Mirko Crocop and Heath Herring. But since he’s fought and won a belt inside the chain-link enclosure, Mizugaki should not have the same difficulties.
The Japanese fighter is certainly confident, promising fireworks once the bell rings. Chicago’s MMA talked to Mizugaki, with the help of his manager/translator Shu Hirata, to learn more about the man who’ll challenge the local favorite for the belt.
